Houston Habitat is very proud to partner with other Habitat affiliates around the world. Houston Habitat has provided almost one million dollars in monetary and volunteer support to international affiliates including Haiti, Nepal, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
You can help by joining us on one of our upcoming Global Village trips.
In the Dominican Republic, high rates of poverty, expensive construction materials and devastating hurricanes have left many families living in poorly constructed homes and substandard conditions. Many are forced to make or forage for their own building materials, which are seldom able to withstand the elements and deteriorate with ease. Houston Habitat for Humanity partners with the local affiliate to help replace self-constructed homes with ones built with proper building techniques and materials and to improve safety and sanitation.
Join this five-day trip and work with us and the local community to improve the housing conditions of families living in extreme poverty. Read more about our travel to the Dominican Republic.
Almost half of Guatemalans have inadequate latrines. Many families cook using an indoor open fire, which is a cause of respiratory disease for more than half of the population. Houston Habitat for Humanity partners with the local Habitat affiliate and local families to improve the living conditions in Guatemala. Homes are designed to suit the needs of each individual family, but typically include a kitchen, living room, bathroom and two bedrooms.
