honoring president carter
Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have been building and advocating for affordable housing alongside Habitat for Humanity. Since then, the Carter Work Project has touched lives around the world by inspiring more than 108,000 volunteers to help build, renovate and repair 4,447 homes in 14 countries.
We have been honored to have two of the world’s most respected and renowned people as dedicated and hardworking Habitat volunteers for more than 35 years. President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter were tireless advocates, active fundraisers and some of Habitat for Humanity’s best hands-on construction volunteers.
In Houston, we were honored to host the Carter Work Project in 1998. With President Carter’s leadership, we built 100 homes in just 1 week during the heat of summer. The Carter Work Project was a springboard for Houston Habitat, pushing our affiliate to serve more Houston families and bringing significant attention to our work.
President Carter and Rosalynn Carter will forever be in the hearts of Houston Habitat for Humanity and those families and volunteers who were part of the 1998 Carter Work Project.
Thank you, President Carter.
