core volunteer program
If you are looking for an ongoing volunteer opportunity with Houston Habitat, join our Core Volunteer program, launching in 2020.
Core Volunteers make Houston Habitat’s mission possible. Each Core Volunteer develops construction and leadership skills that are essential to homebuilding. Volunteers commit to completing a series of training courses and to building about twice a month, which allows volunteers to become familiar with how Houston Habitat operates and builds.
Why become a Core Volunteer?
- Work alongside great construction staff, other volunteers and families in our program
- Learn construction skills
- You’ll get your own Habitat t-shirt
- It’s a great way to meet new people!
What kind of things can you learn?
- Framing
- Installing trusses
- Sheathing
- Wall building
- Window and door installation
- Roofing
and more!
Currently we have two training cohorts a year (spring and fall). Each cohort is limited to 15 new Core Volunteers. We ask those who are interested in the program to be patient with us while we work down our signup list.
*The current wait list is full through 2022. When the pandemic subsides, we should be able to increase our class sizes*
Can’t wait that long to volunteer? Please see our other volunteer opportunities.
An update email on the new cohort will be sent to signups at the end of the current build season (Spring-June, Fall-December).
