Vision

Robins Landing will be a place to call home for families in need of safe and affordable housing. This new 127-acre mixed-use master-planned community of affordable and energy-efficient single-family homes and multifamily units was designed with extensive community input from residents, the public, and nonprofit organizations. Everyone deserves a decent and affordable place to call home, one with reasonable access to the resources they need to live, work, and play. Robins Landing will offer affordable homes in a beautiful community featuring parks, gardens, healthcare, a library, banking, and more, catering to individuals at all stages of life.

Houston Habitat Humanity's innovative funding model

Houston Habitat is utilizing an innovative funding model to secure the $43 million needed for the development and infrastructure of Robins Landing.

  • Houston Habitat, as the developer, is contributing the land
  • Partner builders are purchasing lots to build single-family homes
  • Amenity partners are purchasing pad sites for their services
  • Multi-family and Senior unit builders are purchasing pad sites
  • Zero and low-interest construction loans

Robins Landing brings together a thoughtful mix of public and private investment to support a resilient new neighborhood in Northeast Houston. The project includes more than $33 million in infrastructure work—everything from site preparation and utilities to drainage, paving, and road improvements—along with community‑focused features like green spaces, trails, and resilience elements. Major partner projects, including new homes, a planned library, a health clinic, and multifamily and senior housing, represent tens of millions more in long‑term investment. All together, these efforts lay the groundwork for a stable, connected community designed to grow and thrive.

Case for support

Need

Everyone needs an affordable place to call home, but Houston lacks enough affordable housing to meet the demand. Recent events such as major disasters, rising median home prices, and the economic downturn have reduced the number of affordable housing units even more. In fact, 1 in 7 Texans now pays 50% or more of their incomes for housing, leaving them to make difficult choices with what little remains. And the COVID-19 pandemic has made clean, well-maintained housing that is not overcrowded a matter of life or death.

Owning a home is key to wealth building. In fact, home equity is the major source of wealth for families in the US. Renewed calls for racial equity have placed focus on the systemic denial of homeownership opportunities, resulting in low and declining rates of homeownership by people of color. Increasing homeownership for people of color will help to close the wealth gap.

To thrive, people need access to a strong community with access to services and amenities that promote social connection, economic development and healthy, active lifestyles.
