individual volunteering

Each volunteer is essential to our mission to create affordable places for Houstonians to call home. While most of those who volunteer with us come to our organization through their company, we have many folks who are seeking opportunities to give back on their own.

Open Build Construction

During our build seasons, we will add Open Build days to the calendar. Open Builds are just that, open to any individual, age 16 or older, that would like to volunteer on the new home construction site. No construction experience necessary. You may see Open Builds on the schedule on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. We do not build with volunteers in July and August due to the heat.

ReStore

Our ReStores, home improvement store and donation centers, open to the public, offer deep discounts on hardware, appliances, building materials and home decor. All profits help Houston Habitat build more homes!

Volunteers work with ReStore staff to create a great shopping experience for our customers by assisting in our warehouse and with merchandising and pricing, helping customers on the sales floor and much more!

At our ReStore South Loop, you can volunteer Tuesday- Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No experience necessary.

At our ReStore West 34th, you can volunteer Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No experience necessary.

Community Gardens

Part of Houston Habitat’s mission is to improve the communities people call home.  It is a goal that we can’t accomplish without the help of volunteers!  Assist our community garden partners in 5th Ward or Settegast by planting, weeding, and harvesting plants. These opportunities are generally on Fridays or Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (5th Ward) or 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Settegast). No skills required.

Special Builds

From time to time, Houston Habitat hosts special projects or build events designed to benefit and/or engage specific segments of our community.  These projects help us and our partners increase our impact and empower more through shelter.
