Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapters in Houston

Houston Habitat Campus Chapters are chartered student organizations within the Habitat for Humanity International campus chapter network. They give high school and college students across the Houston area a way to serve their communities, build leadership skills, and advocate for affordable housing.

Campus chapters are student-led organizations that partner with a local Habitat affiliate. Habitat for Humanity International defines four functions every chartered chapter carries out:

  • Service
  • Fundraising
  • Education
  • Advocacy

Chapter members volunteer on Houston Habitat build sites, including Robins Landing, take shifts at the ReStore on South Loop or West 34th Street, and join Neighborhood Revitalization work in Settegast and the Fifth Ward. They also recruit fellow students, educate their campuses about housing need in Harris County, advocate for affordable housing solutions, and raise funds for Houston Habitat’s work.

WHAT CAMPUS CHAPTERS DO

Houston Habitat builds and sells homes to households earning 50 to 80 percent of the area median income, and repairs homes for owners who cannot afford the work themselves. Chapters learn that model first, so they can explain it accurately on campus.

  • Organize volunteer opportunities
  • Recruit and engage student volunteers
  • Lead fundraising initiatives
  • Raise awareness about affordable housing
  • Host educational programs and events
  • Develop leadership and professional skills

Houston Habitat currently partners with chapters at:

  • Rice University
  • University of Houston
  • Prairie View A&M
  • Taylor High School
  • The Village School
